Above are two photos of the table that my nephew Dustan Barber
(Guild member) and I recently completed . The basic table is 5'-0"
in diameter with a 2'-0" lazy susan in the center, veneered with an
umbaya burl (African walnut) provided by Don Clarke with lamination
assisted by Aubrey Rogers. The primary wood is North Carolina black
walnut. The primary top is divided into eight sections made with
CNC patterns to maintain accuracy. The aprons on the primary table
extend to support eight leaves which mate with the outer edge of the
smaller table. Over-center clamps hold them together. The
resulting top is 7'-0" in diameter able to seat 12 people
comfortably. Dustan and I want to additionally thank Bobby Hartness
for his engineering and sanding assistance and Ron Critser who
helped in the final finishing stages. The finish is post-catalyzed
lacquer, flattened, then mahogany pigmented bee's wax. This will be
moved to Dustan's new house soon. |

do a sculpture. Much of the scrap actually came from the trash bins at
the
